Facet-Dependent Gas Adsorption Selectivity on ZnO: A DFT Study

چکیده
Semiconductor-based gas sensors are of great interest in both industrial and research settings, but poor selectivity has hindered their further development. Current efforts including doping, surface modifications facet controlling have been proved effective. However, the “methods-selectivity” correlation is ambiguous because uncontrollable defects states during experiments. Here, as a case study, using DFT method, we studied adsorption features commonly tested gases—CH2O, H2, C2H5OH, CH3COCH3, NH3—on facets ZnO(0001¯), ZnO(101¯0) ZnO(101¯1). The energies charge transfers were calculated, was analyzed. results show ZnO(0001¯) obvious CH2O selectivity; slight to C2H5OH NH3; ZnO(101¯1) which agrees with experimental results. mechanism selective terms polarity, geometric matching electronic structure matching. attributed joint effort matching: former allows for specific gas/slab interactions, latter decides strength interactions. As sensing probably dominated by gas–lattice this work envisioned be helpful designing new material high selectivity.

Facet-Dependent Photoreduction on Single ZnO Crystals
Photocatalytic reactions occur at the crystal-solution interface, and hence specific crystal facet expression and surface defects can play an important role. Here we investigate the structure-related photoreduction at zinc oxide (ZnO) microparticles via integrated light and electron microscopy in combination with silver metal photodeposition. This enables a direct visualization of the photoredu...

متن کاملOxygen adsorption on single layer graphyne: a DFT study.
Graphyne is a rising two-dimensional (2D) carbon allotrope with excellent electronic properties. In this paper, theoretical calculations were performed to study the corresponding electronic properties of the oxygenated graphyne. Atomic oxygen when bound to the carbon atom of graphyne forms a stable oxide, with a much larger binding energy compared to that on graphene. Owing to the oxygen adsorp...

Abstract: Electrical sensitivity of a beryllium oxide nanotube (BeONT) was examined toward (C5H5N) molecule by using density functional theory (DFT) calculations at the B3LYP/6-31(d) level, and it was found that the adsorption energy (Ead) of pyridine on the pristine nanotubes is a bout -73.29kcal/mol. But when nanotubes has been doped with S and P atomes , t...
